Malachi Austin, one of Guyana’s brightest young talents in track and field, has taken a major step forward in his career by earning a full athletic scholarship to Louisiana State University (LSU).
At just 17 years old, Austin has already made a name for himself on the international stage, clinching a silver medal in the 400m at the Youth Commonwealth Games and dominating the 2024 CARIFTA Games as the U20 400m champion.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s top young 400m prospects, Austin’s achievements have solidified his reputation as a rising star and caught the attention of NCAA powerhouse LSU, where he will now have the opportunity to further hone his skills and compete against some of the best collegiate athletes in the world.
A key figure behind Austin’s success is Coach Julian Edmonds of the Running Braves Track and Field Club. Under Edmonds’ expert guidance, Austin has developed into a formidable force on the track, combining natural talent with disciplined training and a relentless work ethic.
