Student Art Scholarships have been foundational to The Woodlands Arts Council’s (TWAC) impact, and the organization is excited to mark this moment on the journey with plans to award one exceptional student a $20,000 scholarship in 2025 – in addition to the planned $40,000 awarded annually. That means the graduating class of 2025 in Montgomery County will receive $60,000 in Student Art Scholarships from TWAC to pursue their higher education.
“We believe art and creativity are essential to all aspects of life. Having this opportunity to impact young adults in their pursuit of higher education is thrilling as a board member of the Arts Council, shared Nancy Charbonneau, Chair of TWAC’s Because Art Matter Committee.
Graduating high school seniors from Montgomery County will apply with a 3 piece portfolio showcasing their visual and/or literary arts skills. Applicants will then be invited to portfolio interviews on January 10-11, 2025. The jury for this landmark decision will be composed of past TWAC Board Presidents.
The TWAC Because Art Matters committee encourages students to submit portfolios that show growth, clarity of vision, or are related thematically. Students are not required to pursue art at university to apply. Click here to learn more.
TWAC has awarded student art scholarships since 2005, with hundreds of students awarded over $500,000 in the last 20 years. “We are in the middle of reaching out to past awardees to see where they are now and to learn a little bit about where creativity has taken their lives,” said Claire Karl, Manager of Programs. TWAC asks if you or someone you know was awarded a scholarship over the years that they fill out this quick survey: https://forms.gle/6cv1q8YKyccbu21j7
Past awardees will also be able to contribute a piece to the Student Art Anthology Volume III, which will be sold at the 20th Annual Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, April 11-13, 2025. Proceeds from the Anthology support the continued growth and impact of the Student Art Scholarship program.
To support Student Art Scholarships, consider purchasing the Student Art Anthology Volumes I and II, available for local pickup at The Woodlands Arts Council offices. Purchase past issues of the anthology here.
