The Aspen Institute is inviting applications for the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship, an opportunity designed to support and develop the next generation of diverse nonprofit leaders. Offered three times annually (Fall, Spring, Summer), this prestigious fellowship provides undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on experience at one of the world’s leading organizations focused on building a free, just, and equitable society.

About the Hearst Fellowship
The Hearst Fellowship aims to introduce students to the complex issues and opportunities within philanthropy and the social sector. Fellows will support PSI’s leadership initiatives, events, research, and program operations—gaining valuable experience in nonprofit strategy, social innovation, and policy engagement.
This is a working fellowship, not an independent research program. Students may also arrange to receive academic credit.
Key Responsibilities
As a Hearst Fellow, you will:
• Conduct research and contribute to writing projects
• Assist with logistics and administrative tasks for PSI events and convenings
• Support PSI leadership initiatives and public programs
• Gain practical experience in philanthropy, social innovation, and nonprofit leadership
Fall and Spring Fellows work 15–20 hours per week. Compensation is $18–$19 per hour.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
✔ Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
✔ Demonstrate academic excellence
✔ Show financial need
✔ Have strong research and writing skills
✔ Have an interest in the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, or social innovation
✔ Be authorized to work in the United States
Summer applicants must show proof of fall semester enrollment.
