GRAHAM — The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded the Alamance Community College Foundation a $10,000 grant to support scholarships for workforce development training, with a focus on underrepresented populations.
This funding will support the ability of the ACC Foundation to provide scholarships, including tuition, books and supplies, to low-income students, with a focus on students of color. Preference for the scholarship program will be given to students studying in energy-related sectors, including advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity. Other forms of support will be provided through emergency assistance grants, child care grants and work-study programs.
The longtime partnership between Duke Energy and ACC has included a $97,500 River Resources Grant in 2019 that helped return part of the lower campus to its original native prairie environment, which serves as a riparian buffer to the adjacent Haw River.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support to meet the needs of communities where Duke Energy customers live and work.
The ACC Foundation has awarded scholarship and financial aid to students since 1983, providing funding for professional development activities for faculty and staff, and establishing endowments to provide for future growth and instructional chairs.
