“Both students have exhibited academic excellence in their classrooms and were recommended to CVC by their professors,” said Courtney Plaster, the council’s executive director.
The late Ann Davey Masters was an environmental advocate and a long-time CVC executive director, serving in that role from 1996-2009.
“During her tenure, Ann Masters spearheaded environmental initiatives that improved the quality of life in the Roanoke Valley,” said Plaster.
The scholarships were awarded during CVC’s annual Earth Summit in November. The event gives middle and high school students, and first- and second-year college students a conference experience that includes networking activities and interactive workshops on pathways for careers in environmental sustainability and science. This year 182 students and teachers attended, according to the release.
Students enrolled in VWCC’s integrated environmental science or agriculture associates of science degrees are eligible for the scholarship. Fehlberg is enrolled in the Integrated Environmental Studies Specialization and is interested in pursuing a career in environmental resources management. Kroese is enrolled in the Agriculture Specialization and is interested in a career in animal sciences.
The CVC is a non-profit provides lifelong learning through environmental education to children pre-K-12 and adults of all ages.
