CMU students receive scholarships for designing dwellings – KKCO

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – College students were awarded for showcasing their talents in planning, design, communication, and innovation.
The City of Grand Junction awarded several scholarships to CMU students during a city council meeting.
These students participated in the Accessory Dwelling Unit Design Challenge. The goal was to design a dwelling that was affordable, innovative and sustainable. The top three teams were awarded scholarships from $500 to $2,500.
The students said that the competition was less about winning and more about the life lessons they learned along the way.
“We all enjoyed working alongside each other and we helped each other.” CMU Student Christopher Walchle said. “If someone needed help, we helped them. If someone needed advice, we gave it.”
The designs will be developed into plans available on the city’s website. Local homeowners and developers will be able to use the designs.
