LAKE TWP. − The Lake Community Hope Scholarship Fund is collecting receipts from Acme Fresh Market as part of Acme’s Community Cash Back Program. Purchases of items from participating brands (including Acme, Food Club, TopCare and Paws) will earn 5% cash back. The receipts should be dated between Aug. 1, 2024, and Feb. 15, 2025. The money raised will support the Lake Community Hope Scholarship Fund in Memory of Melissa Dunham, Renee Dunham, Amber Dunham and Evan Dunham.

The Dunhams were Lake Township residents and died in August 2023. The surviving family, through the Stark Community Foundation, set up the scholarship fund to support a graduating Lake senior who has demonstrated exceptional engagement in extracurricular activities and community service beyond school. Melissa was an alumna of Lake, and her three children attended Lake Local Schools.

CANTON – Aultman College will add a sonography program for students to gain the skills and knowledge for the field of medical imaging. The program will begin taking applications for fall 2025 upon approval from the Higher Learning Commission.
The 21-month, five-semester program’s curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience. Students will train in various sonography techniques, with a focus on cardiovascular imaging. Experienced faculty members who are experts in the field of diagnostic medical sonography will lead the program.
The program’s facilities will include advanced ultrasound equipment and simulation labs. The college has partnered with local healthcare providers to offer students clinical opportunities and real-world experience. Graduates of the sonography program will be eligible for national certification exams.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 14% increase in employment for diagnostic medical sonographers from 2022 to 2032. According to Salary.com, the average starting salary for a registered diagnostic medical sonographer in northeast Ohio is around $88,000.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is offering scholarships of up to $5,000 to college-bound high school seniors affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia-related illnesses as part of its annual Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship Contest. Entries can be submitted at www.alzfdn.org/scholarship and must be received by 5 p.m. March 1.
Eligible teens can apply for the scholarship by submitting an essay (1,500 words maximum) or submitting a video (no more than four minutes) describing how Alzheimer’s disease has affected their lives and what they have learned about themselves, their family and/or their community through their experience with Alzheimer’s.

The program is open to current high school seniors living in the United States who will be attending a U.S. college or university this fall. Students already attending college are not eligible to participate.
The top prize awarded is a $5,000 scholarship. Additional prizes are awarded for runners up and honorable mentions.
