This year the Gratiot County Community Foundation awarded $200,000 to 80 local students helping them to further their education.
Now, as 2025 is set to begin, foundation Executive Director Chelsea Holmes Matz has announced there will be $225,000 in scholarships available to applicants next year.
“Scholarships are available for all ages – graduating high school seniors, college students, adults returning to school and high school students studying arts outside the classroom,” she stated in a press release.
For the largest two scholarship funds the only criteria to be considered is that the applicant lives or works in Gratiot County and is planning a post-secondary education, Holmes Matz added.
The foundation manages 50 different scholarship funds, and the average amount awarded is $2,000. Students can qualify for more than one scholarship.
The entire application process is online at www/gratiotfoundation.org/scholarships.
Those who apply will create a login account and answer a series of questions that will determine their eligibility for all available scholarships.
The deadline to submit an application is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31.
In addition to scholarships, the foundation also awarded $734,000 in grants to support a variety of community projects this year alone.
In total the agency manages more than $18 million in assets and 138 endowment funds.
During its 32-year history the foundation has handed out more than $8.5 million in grants and scholarships.
