The upcoming Johnson County’s Got Talent event brings opportunity for area high schools to compete against each other for bragging rights and for students of those schools to show off their talents.
The talent show starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Cleburne Conference Center, 1501 W. Henderson St.
Funds raised from the event benefit JumpStart, a charitable organization that provides funding for dual credit scholarships to Hill College to Johnson County high school students.
“We’re just trying to raise money for our kids to give them an opportunity to get an education,” JumpStart volunteer Gary Dollgener said.
Through the talent show, area students will display their singing, dancing, musical, comedy and other talents, Dollgener said.
For this, the first year of Johnson County’s Got Talent, one student each from Cleburne High School, Alvarado High School, Godley High School, Grandview High School, Keene High School and Rio Vista High School are scheduled to perform.
”Our hope is that this talent show proves fun and popular and becomes an annual tradition,” Cleburne ISD Director of Fine Arts Estelle Murr said. “We hope it attracts students from all of our Johnson County schools in the years ahead.”
First and second place recipient will be announced the night of the show with the first-place winner receiving a two-year scholarship to Hill College. The second-place winner will receive two free classes at Hill.
Both winners will receive a plaque and their respective schools will receive a banner to display.
The event also includes a barbecue dinner.
Donations are still needed for the night’s auction and raffle items, Dollgener said.
Tickets, $50 per person, remain available as to sponsorship tables. Sponsorship tables are available at $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000. Talent sponsorships, for those unable to attend the event, are available for $500.

JumpStart awards scholarships to area high school students to cover the cost of dual credit courses.
Through dual credit courses, high school students receive class credits both for their high school and for college.
The Johnson County Jump Start program, through donations, exists to cover the costs of dual credit programs — about $315 per course — for qualified high school students in Johnson County.
The program is open to students in public, private, charter and home schools within the county.
