Five seniors from Harker Heights High School received scholarship funds from the Harker Heights Kiwanis Club Tuesday.
During the ceremony, HHHS students Heema Solanki, Vyom Patel, Serenity Howery, Hanah Kim and Ashley Jackowski each received a folder with a certificate and a check for $1,500 for a named Kiwanis scholarship to help with future expenses. Norman Dunbar, the Heights Kiwanis past club president, and Jody Nicholas, current president of the club, made the presentations.
The club’s Memorial Scholarship was presented to Solanki who plans to attend the University of Austin. There were two scholarships given in the name of P.R. Cox and both recipients, Patel and Howerym plan to attend the University of Texas at Austin. Harvard-bound student Kim was awarded the H.B. (Bill) Davis scholarship. The Stewart C. Meyer scholarship was presented to Jackowski who plans to attend Sam Houston State University.
Two other students were recognized for their accomplishments by Kiwanis members. Mervin (Jayden) Narito, Key Club treasurer at the school was honored with the Sophomore of the Year scholarship. Junior Ava Perry was presented the Gen. Robert M. Shoemaker Citizenship Award.
Heights High Principal Jorge Soldevila and school counselor Deleen Price were on hand to congratulate two additional scholarship winners. The two administrators are part of a team who selected Narito and Perry from a group of student applications.
“We are proud of your accomplishments and the Harker Heights Kiwanis Club would like to wish all of you the very best for your future,” Dunbar said.
