With the holiday season — a time often associated with giving — underway, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has expanded his philanthropic efforts by making a significant contribution to a group of students from a local youth mentorship program.
During a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Lions’ training facility — an invitation extended by Goff — five students from Give Merit’s FATE program at the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy were surprised with four-year college scholarships from the quarterback.
Last week, @jaredgoff16 invited students from the @meritgoodness FATE Program to the Meijer Performance Center where he gave them an exclusive tour. “We are beyond grateful for Jared’s unwavering support and commitment to our students,” Kuhu Saha, co-founder and executive director of Give Merit, said in a release. “His generosity, mentorship, and belief in their potential have created life-changing opportunities. This surprise demonstrates just how much Jared cares about the future of Detroit youth, and we are honored to have him as a partner.”
Goff, who is the Lions’ nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, has collaborated with Give Merit on multiple initiatives since joining the team in 2021.
Ahead of last season’s kickoff, Goff and his JG16 brand partnered with Merit, a Detroit-based high-quality clothing company that supports city students in their pursuit of higher education, an effort aligned with Give Merit’s mission.

The collaboration resulted in a capsule collection of apparel designed by students from the FATE program, with Goff personally endorsing and modeling the items.
The FATE program supports approximately 200 Detroit youth, providing real-world business experience to help students develop skills and work toward their future goals.
