Maternal and Child Health Scholarship Program – University of Alberta

The Maternal and Child Health Scholarship Program (MatCH) facilitates an interdisciplinary approach between basic and clinical research environments. Created in response to the Office of the Provost’s call for a unique approach to the training of high calibre graduate students, the MatCH Scholarship Program provides an exceptional learning environment for accepted students.

The MatCH program is funded by a collaboration between the University of Alberta Office of the Provost, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Women and Children’s Health Research Institute. It encompasses basic science, clinical, epidemiology and health services research in the departments of Medical Genetics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology as part of the Medical Sciences Graduate Program.

The program is a unique portal into graduate studies that allows students to experience lab environments of three different potential supervisors prior to choosing a lab in which to complete their degree. Students can select from a wide variety of highly funded laboratories in both basic and clinical research for both their rotations and eventual graduate studies; the degree of the student will be granted from the department of their mentor of choice. This program will provide specific instruction and experience in bench to bedside science and provide the groundwork for multi-disciplinary approaches leading to opportunities for knowledge translation.
This scholarship program is made possible through the generous support of the University of Alberta Office of the Provost, and is funded by the generosity of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and supporters of the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation through the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute.
