JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Future veterinary students going to Arkansas State University will have a new way to help them afford their education.
The Smith, Whitney, Eubanks Veterinary Scholarship was formed by three alumni who attended Arkansas State together and then went on to Louisiana State University’s veterinary program.
This scholarship will help some students with one of the main concerns of trying to become a veterinarian, which is student debt.
“Student debt load is one of the biggest concerns of veterinary graduates today,” said Heidi Banse, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State. “These sorts of scholarships make sure that our students have less debt and are able to be confident in their career path.”
In the Voices, a magazine published by the Arkansas State University Alumni Association, one of the donors, Dr. Steve Eubanks said, “The connections we made at A-State shaped our careers and our lives, and we want to ensure future students have similar opportunities.”
It’s also a sign to show that they have people committed to helping them through their journey.
“For our future students to know that there are people out there that are committed to them and committed to trying to make sure that their educational experience is as low-cost as it can be,” Banse said.
“We owe so much to Arkansas State, and this scholarship is a way to give back and support future students who share our passion for veterinary science,” Dr. Harry Smith, another donor, told the Voices.
