NISSWA — The Nisswa Women’s Club awarded three $1,500 scholarships to Pequot Lakes High School senior Calia Chaney and Brainerd High School seniors Ashton Extrand and Molly Cartwright at the club’s May 16 meeting.
Also at the meeting, Pequot Lakes Superintendent Kurt Stumpf talked about activities at the school.
PLHS students Chaney, Brook Hennies, Allyson Yahn and Anna Kennedy were present to talk about the REEL North Alliance, a student group that focuses on students’ mental health.
The four students discussed the student-led school organization dedicated to focusing on and improving mental health for students in schools and the community. The goal is to destigmatize mental health and make advancements in suicide prevention through the student-led general meetings and community events.
The Nisswa Women’s Club has 104 years of community service and has focused on scholarships since 1961. The club has members from 15 surrounding communities.
