Eight local students were selected by the Rotary Club of Kerrville and awarded with scholarships at the annual senior awards night ceremonies in May. Each student will receive a $2,000 award which will be sent directly to the university where they will enroll in the fall. The Rotary Club raises the scholarship money through its annual fundraiser, Super Ball, each January.
The first student who received a scholarship was Jessie Bolton, a current student at the University of Texas School of Law. Seven students from Tivy High School were recognized with scholarships. Cade Braaten and Cameron Sibert will attend Texas A&M University in College Station, Britney Tran, Stella Hendricks and Clara Sumner will attend the University of Texas in Austin. Aaron Peschel will enroll at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene and Kaitlyn Vecchio will attend Texas State University in San Marcos this fall.
Students submit applications for the scholarship each year and a volunteer group of Rotarians in the club review and make the selection for the scholarships. Rotarian Jessica Belschner chairs the youth services committee for the Kerrville Rotary Club.
