Rotary Club Awards $16K in Scholarships to Local Students – Alameda Post

Every year, the Rotary Club of Alameda confers academic scholarships to outstanding students attending high schools in Alameda. This year, more than $16,000 in academic scholarships were awarded, based on academic achievement, community service involvement, extracurricular activities, financial need, and quality of the oral interview.

Winners this year were: Leo Barrantes (St. Joseph’s Notre Dame), Ashley Carreno (SJND), Christian Chiu (Alameda Community Learning Center), Alexis Dollar (SJND), Winnie Gas (Alameda Science and Technology Institute), Hannah Kim (ASTI), Kathy Le (Encinal High School), Nina Leach (EHS), Henry Lee (ASTI), Allen Liao (EHS), Christopher Nguyen (ACLC), Phuong Nguyen (ACLC), Justice Petersen (EHS), Selma Snagic (AHS), Frankie Wu (ASTI), and Samuel Yonas (ACLC).
These excellent young scholars and community members plan to attend UC Davis, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, UCLA, Stanford, Cal Poly, University of Pennsylvania, NYU Tisch School of Arts, and University of Rochester. They have already demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and community involvement here in Alameda, Rotary officials said, noting that the organization is “thrilled to distribute these scholarships to such a deserving group of students.”
