Anyone looking for a deep discount on books published in the last few years may find what they’re looking for when a book sale hits the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney.
Each year, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Saanich Peninsula peddles pages to boost the organization’s education trust fund.
Scholarships for graduating seniors from Peninsula high schools are a key part of the organization’s mandate.
“Since supporting and enabling women’s education is one of our primary purposes, the funds raised from our annual book sales are central to what we do and very much needed to funding our education trust fund, which manages the scholarships and grants that we provide to high school, college and university women each year,” president Fiona St. Clair said in a news release.
Previous recipients have studied at a variety of institutions, including the University of Victoria, Camosun College, the University of British Columbia, Queens University and as far away as the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising in Manhattan.
Founded in 1919, CFUW has more than 94 clubs across Canada and works to improve the status of women while promoting human rights, public education, social justice and peace. The Peninsula chapter was formed in April 1995 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.
The annual book will take place on Aug. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Winspear centre.
