The Summit Foundation recently awarded $360,000 in scholarships to 160 local high school seniors.
In a new release issued Thursday, April 4, the nonprofit stated that 36% of the recipients will be first-generation college students from Summit County.
The nonprofit awards scholarships every year as part of its mission to support working families. Students are selected based on financial need, academic excellence and community service, with all recipients eligible to reapply for a sophomore-year scholarship.
When accounting for renewable scholarships that were awarded this year, The Summit Foundation’s financial commitment rises to $500,000.
Scholarships are made possible through the nonprofit’s ski area partners — Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Breckenridge Ski Resort, Copper Mountain Resort and Keystone Resort — as well as 3,500 community members who make direct donations, purchase ski medallions and support fundraising events.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
