Television Academy Gives Back To AFI Students With Disability Scholarship – LATF USA

The Television Academy gives back to young filmmakers with their foundation.
Students from AFI, American Film Institute Conservatory will be awarded the $10,000 Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship, which recognizes a student-produced project that best portrays disability issues or helps emerging artists with a disability gain recognition.
The award will be presented to the students by celebrities at the 44th College Television Awards red carpet ceremony on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Television Academy’s North Hollywood campus.
The winning piece for 2025 titled Lola was created by AFI students Grace Hanna (director), Duke Yang (writer) and Uloaku Anyiam-Osigme (producer). Lola is a heartwarming, scripted, drama piece centered on a character named Tessie, a 13-year-old science prodigy, who embarks on a daring journey into her grandmother Lola’s mind to retrieve her precious memories before Alzheimer’s disease erases them forever.

Loreen Arbus is a two-time Emmy nominee who holds the trailblazing distinction of being the first woman to head programming for a U.S. network, both at Showtime and Cable Health Network/Lifetime, and is a leading advocate for people with disabilities. This is the 13th year for this award, provided by the Loreen Arbus Foundation, which has established and funds scholarships that both enhance and elevate social consciousness around key societal issues.
The 44th College Television Awards recognizes and rewards excellence in student-produced programs from colleges nationwide. Designed to emulate the Emmy® Awards, student entries are judged by Television Academy members. Criteria for the College Television Awards reflect industry standards of excellence, imagination and innovation.
Tickets to the awards ceremony are $25 for students with ID and $50 for general admission.
