The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association on Thursday, April 4, said it has named eight high school seniors from the Pasadena Unified School District as the 2024 ROSE Scholars.
The program, presented by Citizens Business Bank, awarded $20,000 in scholarships to the eight graduating students with the goal of helping them thrive and fostering their potential. Throughout its history, the program has awarded $80,000 in scholarships to seniors from the school district.
“At the Tournament of Roses, we embrace creativity, and the 2024 Rose Scholars represent that notion,” said Ed Morales, president of the 2025 Tournament of Roses. “We are delighted to honor these students and empower them through scholarships to pursue their dreams.”
Students applied for the scholarship by submitting a creative piece that showcased their future dreams and goals. It could be a painting, sculpture, poem, song, interpretive dance or a mini-documentary.
In addition to the creative piece, students also handed in a one-page reflection explaining their thoughts and feelings behind their creation, along with still images and a video recording outlining their inspiration.
There was no minimum GPA requirement. Instead, applicants needed to secure a recommendation from a teacher, coach, counselor or community member.
The winners of this year’s awards were: Carolina Castillejos from Rose City High School, Eloheem Mahone from John Muir High School, Trinity Dela Cruz from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, Jasmine Sov from Pasadena High School, Lauren Gray from John Muir High School, Worthy Teems from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, Andrea Ibarra from Pasadena High School, Alique Tufenkjian from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School.
