FAYETTE, Mississippi — February 26, 2025 — The Jefferson County School District is thrilled to announce a monumental achievement for our students and community: all seventeen (17) seniors in the Jefferson County High School Sounds of Thunder Marching Band have been awarded full scholarships to Alcorn State University. This unprecedented accomplishment marks the first time in our district’s history that every member of the senior band class has received such a remarkable opportunity, totaling more than $400,000.00 in scholarships.
The Sounds of Thunder Marching Band has long been a source of pride for Jefferson County, showcasing not only musical talent but also dedication, teamwork, and resilience. This historic milestone is a testament to the hard work of our students, the unwavering support of our educators, and the commitment of our community to fostering the arts alongside athletics and STEM programs.
Superintendent Hammitte expressed his pride in this achievement, stating, “We are overjoyed to celebrate this historic moment for our students and community.
