Under an initiative of the Fahim Al Chowdhury Trust, around 600 meritorious students of 200 educational institutions from Zakiganj and Kanaighat of Sylhet were awarded scholarships at a ceremony on Saturday.
The ceremony was held at Moulovi Sair Ali High School in Parchak in Zakiganj, according to a press release.
A total of 2, 081 meritorious students participated in the scholarship examinations held on December 15 and 17 last year.
These high-achieving students, from grades five through eight, earned their awards through a competitive selection process. Based on their performance, 593 students qualified for scholarships across three grade levels.
The final selection included 262 fifth-graders, 108 sixth-graders, 115 seventh-graders, and 108 eighth-graders, who received scholarships in the Merit (Tk 2,500), First (Tk 2,000), and General (Tk 1,500) categories.
In addition to the one-time financial grant, each recipient was awarded a certificate of recognition.
The event was presided over by A.T.M. Selim Chowdhury, the vice-president of the trust.
The trust’s founder and president, Fahim Al Ishaq Chowdhury, participated as the chief guest, joining the ceremony online from London. In his address, Mr. Chowdhury congratulated the scholarship recipients and outlined the Trust’s future plans to promote education.
Md. Shabbir Ahmed, the trust’s secretary, the Upazila Education Officer, and other distinguished guests addressed the audience, highlighting the Trust’s future plans and its contributions to the community.
They discussed the Trust’s important role in the education sector and its broader impact on society. The organizers reiterated the Trust’s dedication to supporting deserving students and advancing education in the future.
According to the press statement, the Fahim Al Chowdhury Trust is committed to the betterment of the community in Zakiganj and Kanaighat, working tirelessly to promote education, alleviate poverty, and provide essential humanitarian services.
