AGROECOLOGY Partnership Opens 3rd Co-Funded Call: Funding for Agroecology Research, Genetic Diversity & Farmer Empowerment

0

The AGROECOLOGY Partnership has officially opened its 3rd co-funded call, inviting researchers, farmers, innovators, and organizations to submit proposals that support the agroecological transition across Europe and beyond.
This new call focuses on strengthening plant and animal genetic diversity and empowering farmers, two core pillars for building resilient, sustainable, and future-ready agricultural systems.

If you’re working in sustainable agriculture, agroecology research, biodiversity in farming, or farmer-led innovation, this is a major opportunity to secure funding for high-impact Research & Innovation (R&I) projects.

Call Theme:

“Fostering plant and animal genetic diversity and empowering farmers to accelerate the agroecological transition.”

The 2026 co-funded call is built around two high-priority topics that support long-term ecological, social, and economic sustainability in agriculture:

Topic 1 — Enhancing Genetic Diversity in Crops & Livestock

Projects under this topic aim to increase the genetic variability of plants and animals to strengthen resilience, productivity, and sustainability within agroecological systems.
Key areas include:

  • Crop and livestock diversity
  • Climate resilience
  • Improved breeding approaches
  • Biodiversity-based farming solutions

Topic 2 — Empowering Farmers in the Agroecological Transition

This topic focuses on strengthening farmers’ ability to adopt, test, and co-develop agroecological practices.
Key areas include:

  • Farmer-led innovation
  • Social and community-based knowledge
  • Participatory approaches
  • On-farm experimentation

Expected Impacts of Successful Proposals

Projects funded under the call must clearly contribute to agroecology implementation and deliver solutions that support real-world agricultural transformation. Successful proposals should help achieve:

  •  Practical tools, knowledge, and innovations for farmers and agricultural stakeholders
  •  Enhanced capacity to implement agroecological practices
  • Improved environmental and socio-economic performance
  • Stronger science-policy connections to accelerate practical adoption

Submission Timeline & Process

The 3rd call follows a two-step submission process:

Pre-proposal Deadline:
