The Next Gen Programme of the PEACE Action network is now inviting applications from Young Researchers and Innovators (YRIs) — defined as researchers aged 39 or younger — to participate in a transformative mentorship and professional development programme running from February 2026 to October 2026. This initiative is designed to empower the next generation of peace scholars and practitioners by providing training, mentorship, and networking opportunities across Europe.
About the Next Gen Programme
The Next Gen Programme (PEACE Action) is a unique opportunity for early‑career researchers and innovators to strengthen their expertise in peace research, conflict prevention, and sustainable security. Participants will gain access to workshops, mentorship, and international collaboration, all aimed at fostering leadership in peacebuilding and policy development.
The programme is part of the broader mission of the PEACE Action network, which seeks to expand and strengthen connections among peace and conflict research centres across Europe. Given the growing challenges to peace and security, this initiative is urgently needed to rethink how peace is conceptualised, built, and sustained in today’s world.
Programme Benefits
Participants in the Next Gen Programme will benefit from:
- Two in‑person workshops:
- Kick‑off workshop in Ljubljana, Slovenia (March 2026)
- Closing workshop in Lisbon, Portugal (31 August 2026)
These workshops will provide training on peace research theories and methodologies, as well as valuable networking opportunities. Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed.
- Online community calls: Covering topics such as career development, funding opportunities, mental wellbeing, academic writing, and research‑policy impact. Participants will be surveyed to tailor sessions to their needs.
- Individual mentorship: Each participant will be paired with a senior researcher from the PEACE network. Mentorship will be customised to the mentee’s interests, with flexibility in topics and frequency.
- Short‑Term Scientific Mission (STSM): Up to two weeks at a host institution, supported by a grant of up to €1,500 to fund the research stay.
This comprehensive package ensures that participants not only gain knowledge but also practical experience and professional connections.
Deadline for applications: 4 January 2026

By joining the Next Gen Programme, participants will become part of a growing network of peace and conflict researchers across Europe. This network is dedicated to addressing pressing questions such as:

- What continuums and disruptions are shaping the continent’s security landscape?
- How do new peace practices and conceptualisations impact European policy, institutions, and communities?
