Civil Society Europe (CSE) is currently recruiting for two exciting roles based in Brussels, offering the opportunity to work at the heart of EU civil dialogue and civic space. These positions are ideal for professionals committed to safeguarding civic rights, strengthening civil society, and shaping EU-level policy and communication.


About Civil Society Europe

Civil Society Europe (CSE) is the coordination body for European civil society organisations (CSOs). Its membership includes 26 major platforms and networks representing a wide range of sectors, including civic participation, education, social rights, environment and animal rights, culture, transparency, international cooperation, volunteering, youth, health, anti-racism, migration, and disability rights.

Founded in 2016, CSE has become a key point of reference for EU institutions on civil dialogue and civic space, reaching millions of individuals across the EU through its member organisations.


Position 1: Policy and Campaign Officer

Key Details

  • Contract: Fixed-term (12 months, with possibility of extension)
  • Working time: Full-time (38 hours/week)
  • Location: Brussels office + up to 2 days/week remote
  • Salary: €2,600–€2,800 gross/month (depending on experience)
  • Benefits: Public transport reimbursement, luncheon vouchers, office allowance
  • Reports to: Director
  • Start date: As soon as possible, by mid-February 2026

Responsibilities

  • Monitor EU and national policy developments related to civil society and funding
  • Support cross-national civil society mobilisation on the EU long-term budget (MFF)
  • Contribute to EU-wide campaigns on the added value of civil society
  • Draft policy papers, briefings, and accessible communication materials
  • Coordinate working groups, events, and meetings with EU decision-makers
  • Support dissemination of reports and advocacy outputs
  • Contribute to CSE’s State of Democracy biannual report

Ideal Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong policy analysis, writing, and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of EU policies and civil society funding
  • Strong teamwork and networking skills

Desirable:

  • NGO or advocacy experience
  • Campaigning and communication experience
  • Understanding of EU institutions
  • Additional EU language(s)

Position 2: Communications Assistant

Key Details

  • Contract: Contrat d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP), subject to approval
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Working time: Full-time (38 hours/week)
  • Location: Brussels office + up to 2 days/week remote
  • Stipend: €1,056/month
  • Benefits: Public transport reimbursement
  • Reports to: Communications & Outreach Officer
  • Start date: As soon as possible, by mid-February 2026

Responsibilities

  • Draft content for social media and newsletters
  • Update and maintain website content
  • Support event organisation and campaign activities
  • Assist with communication materials (reports, leaflets, publications)
  • Support advocacy and project communication
  • Participate in CSE communication working group meetings

Ideal Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree or relevant experience/volunteering
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong digital literacy (WordPress, Canva/Adobe, social media tools)
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in EU civil society and advocacy work

Desirable:

  • NGO or advocacy experience
  • Graphic or video production skills
  • Understanding of EU institutions
  • Additional EU language(s)
