The Elbaum Resident Writer Program at Convergence Magazine is a year-long initiative designed to support emerging and established writers who are committed to advancing critical conversations in Left progressive organizing. The program provides writers with mentorship, financial support, and a platform to publish impactful work that examines key challenges and opportunities in movement building.
Program Overview
Two selected Resident Writers will join Convergence Magazine for a 12-month residency, during which they will develop and publish multiple articles that address urgent issues shaping Left organizing in the United States. Through editorial guidance and cross-engagement with other writers, participants will have the space to deepen their analysis and sharpen their craft.
What the Program Offers
Resident Writers will receive:
- $2,000 base stipend for the year
- Monthly coaching sessions with Convergence’s Managing Editor
- $200 per published article (for 3 guaranteed articles, with up to 6 total)
- Written dialogue and responses from other writers to foster debate and reflection
- Cross-promotion of their work within the Convergence community

Eligibility
- Applicants must currently be based in the United States.
- Writers from diverse backgrounds and experiences in movement work, political education, and progressive organizing are encouraged to apply.
Application & Selection
Applicants will be asked to provide personal information aligned with Convergence Magazine’s privacy standards. Demographic questions are optional and collected solely for statistical purposes. Writers who are not selected may still submit response articles to published pieces from the Resident Writers and will receive an honorarium for accepted articles.
