The Hudson Institute Political Studies Summer Fellowship is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort. This prestigious programme offers college students and recent graduates the opportunity to engage deeply with political theory, public policy, and political practice through an intensive summer learning experience in Washington, D.C. All admitted fellows receive complimentary housing and a stipend of 3,000 USD.

The fellowship brings together students from diverse academic backgrounds for a curriculum that includes seminars, workshops, and discussions led by leading scholars, policy experts, and public figures. Participants explore foundational political texts, contemporary policy issues, and major questions shaping political life today.


What the Fellowship Provides

  • Full participation at no cost

  • Complimentary housing in Washington, D.C.

  • A stipend of 3,000 USD

  • Access to seminars, workshops, and distinguished speakers

  • Immersive study of politics, political thought, and public affairs

  • Placement into one of two programme sessions:

    • Session I: 24 May – 5 July 2026

    • Session II: 28 June – 7 August 2026

Applicants unable to attend one of the sessions must notify the programme team.


Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • Resume or CV

  • Personal statement responding to one of the following (1,000 words or fewer):

    • What book has influenced you most and why?

    • What do you hope to gain from the serious study of politics?

  • Writing sample (15 pages or fewer) on a topic related to political science, philosophy, literature, history, classics, policy, foreign affairs, or government

    • If your academic programme does not assign suitable written work, you must submit:

      • Documentation from your institution explaining the policy

      • A second personal-statement essay (1,000 words) responding to the question you did not choose

  • One letter of recommendation

  • Professional-style headshot

Recommenders receive an automated request after you submit your application. Applicants are responsible for notifying recommenders in advance and ensuring their timely submission.

The Hudson Institute Political Studies Summer Fellowship offers college students and recent graduates a fully funded academic program in Washington, D.C., including seminars, policy workshops, and a $3,000 stipend. Applicants must submit a resume, personal statement, writing sample, recommendation letter, and headshot. The Early Decision deadline is January 9, 2026, and the Regular Decision deadline is March 2, 2026. The fellowship runs in two possible sessions between May and August 2026. The fellowship is a full-time commitment. Participants may not hold other internships or employment during the programme.
