The Johns Hopkins Gender Equity / Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Evidence Accelerator Fellowship 2026–2027 is a fully funded, year-long, part-time fellowship designed for practitioners, researchers, and scholars working in gender equity and GBV, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Hosted by the Center for Global Women’s Health and Gender Equity (CGWHGE) at Johns Hopkins University, this competitive fellowship strengthens fellows’ capacity to generate, analyze, synthesize, and translate evidence to inform gender equity and GBV programs, research, and policy.

About the Fellowship Program

The Gender Equity/GBV Evidence Accelerator Fellowship is a cohort-based professional development program combining academic coursework, applied research, and mentored learning.

Fellows receive:

  • Sponsored mentorship from CGWHGE faculty

  • Select coursework through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH)

  • A structured cohort experience focused on networking and career advancement

  • Opportunities for virtual engagement and in-person convenings

As part of the fellowship, participants complete a mentored mini-project focused on gender equity or GBV, which may include:

  • Secondary analysis of survey or program data

  • Evidence synthesis or literature review

  • Applied research to inform policy or practice

Faculty provide data analysis and research mentorship throughout the project period.

Time Commitment and Format

  • Duration: 12 months (2026–2027)

  • Time commitment:

    • Average of 10 hours per week

    • Up to 20 hours per week during course periods

  • Delivery mode:

    • Primarily virtual

    • Includes select in-person convenings, including one major cohort gathering

  • Language: All fellowship activities are conducted in English

Who Should Apply?

This fellowship is ideal for professionals and scholars seeking to strengthen evidence-based skills to advance gender equity and GBV work in LMIC contexts.

Ideal applicants include (but are not limited to):

  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) professionals

  • Gender and GBV practitioners

  • Community-based and applied researchers

  • PhD students working in low- or middle-income countries

  • Postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty focused on gender or GBV

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Prior experience in gender equity or GBV

  • A clear need to build skills in evidence-based research, programs, or policy

  • How the fellowship will accelerate their career goals and real-world impact

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Johns Hopkins Gender Equity/GBV Evidence Accelerator Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be from and currently living and/or working in a low- or middle-income country

  • Be currently working in the gender/GBV field, or:

    • Enrolled in a PhD program, or

    • Holding a Postdoctoral or Junior Faculty position focused on gender/GBV

  • Demonstrate research experience, monitoring and evaluation experience, and/or exposure to statistical software (e.g. STATA, R)

  • Have professional working proficiency in written and spoken English

Not Eligible

  • Current master’s students are not eligible to apply

Fellowship Funding and Benefits

This is a scholarship-supported fellowship, funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

The fellowship covers:

  • Course registration fees

  • Faculty mentoring

  • Travel costs related to required in-person convenings

Please note:

  • No stipend or salary compensation is provided for participants’ time

  • Employed applicants are encouraged to discuss participation with their employer, particularly regarding coursework or meetings during standard working hours

  • June 22–25, 2026 – Applications to Gender Analysis

  • July 1, 2026 – Complete LinkedIn STATA course

  • July 13–16, 2026 – Women’s Health: Disparities and Equity Implications

  • July 20–24, 2026 – International Perspectives on Women, Gender, and Health

  • July 27–31, 2026 – Gender-Based Violence Research, Practice, and Policy

Mentored Project and Dissemination

  • April–December 2026 – Mentored mini-project development and monthly seminars

  • October 2026 – In-person cohort convening

  • Early 2027 – Cohort webinar dissemination

  • Early 2027 – Written and oral presentation of mentored mini-project
