The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), one of the world’s leading public health universities, is seeking a Research Fellow to join the Hararghe Health Research Partnership at Haramaya University, Ethiopia. This part-time, fixed-term role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on perinatal mortality and its risk factors in eastern Hararghe, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and health professionals. The position is ideal for candidates with strong quantitative and data analysis skills, experience with health and demographic surveillance data, and a passion for improving maternal and child health in global contexts.

The role involves high-quality research, analysis of health and demographic surveillance data, contributions to publications, and support for teaching and training activities as appropriate.

 


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct data quality assessments and analysis of demographic and perinatal mortality data
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and research outputs
  • Support doctoral student supervision and research training activities
  • Assist in drafting grant proposals and managing small research grants
  • Contribute to departmental and external collaborations, conferences, and workshops

 


Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in demography, epidemiology, data science, or a related field
  • Strong quantitative and data science skills; proficiency in R, Stata, or similar packages
  • Experience with health and demographic surveillance data in Ethiopia or similar settings
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Experience contributing to grant applications
  • Teaching and student supervision experience
  • Prior work experience in Ethiopia
