United Nations President of the General Assembly Fellowship Programme

INTRODUCTION

The President of the General Assembly (PGA) Fellowship Programme is a prestigious opportunity for students to engage with international diplomacy and the United Nations system. It provides a platform for young leaders to gain firsthand experience and understanding of the workings of the United Nations, particularly the General Assembly.
The Fellowship brings to New York a small group of young diplomats and civil servants from developing countries, particularly from Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), while also ensuring geographical representation and gender balance.

Here are some potential community and volunteer activities for students who participate in the PGA Fellowship Programme:

The Fellowship Programme

Fellows accepted into this prestigious program will be deeply immersed in the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA). They will be attached to various teams within the OPGA, working on a rotational basis. These teams encompass critical areas such as Peace and Security, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, Sustainable Development, UN Reform and General Assembly Affairs, and Communications and Media. This comprehensive exposure will provide Fellows with an invaluable understanding of the intricate workings of the United Nations system. This extends from the core of the UN Secretariat to its various funds and programs, specialized agencies, and other important entities.
