Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Hold a conferred PhD and have begun a postdoctoral position by January 31, 2026

  • Maintain postdoctoral researcher status throughout the fellowship year

  • Be American-born, a naturalized citizen, or a permanent resident

  • Be affiliated with a U.S.-based research or academic institution

  • Conduct their postdoctoral research in the United States

Selection Process

The L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship uses a two-phase evaluation process:

Phase 1: Scientific Peer Review

Applications are reviewed by scientists in each candidate’s field, evaluating:

  • Quality, feasibility and originality of the proposed research

  • Potential contribution to scientific advancement and societal impact

  • Research experience and track record

  • Clarity of scientific methodology and objectives

  • Strength of the host institution and mentorship environment

Phase 2: Jury Review

A distinguished jury selects the five fellows based on:

  • Scientific excellence

  • Intellectual merit

  • Career potential

  • Impact of the proposed research

  • Expected contribution to the scientific community


Budget Guidelines

The $75,000 fellowship funding may support:

  • International travel

Up to 10% of the budget may support STEM outreach initiatives.

Indirect costs, overhead or fringe benefits are not allowed.
