About the Local Pathways Fellowship
Launched by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth Initiative (SDSN Youth), the Local Pathways Fellowship is a 10-month program designed to train and support young leaders who are actively transforming urban spaces. The fellowship provides tools and resources to address challenges related to urban sustainability, infrastructure, culture, economic opportunity, and community engagement.
Through this program, fellows develop a city-specific project that addresses pressing urban challenges, gain mentorship from industry experts, and connect with a global network of over 750 fellows from 180 cities across 80 countries. This platform enables fellows to share insights, collaborate on solutions, and amplify their impact globally.
Eligibility Criteria
The Local Pathways Fellowship is open to youth worldwide, with a focus on ensuring diverse regional representation. To apply, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Age: 18–30 years old at the time of application.
- Passion for Sustainable Development: Strong interest in sustainable development, SDG 11, and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
- Knowledge & Skills: Academic or professional experience in urban planning, urban environment, urban sustainability, urban tech, development practice, community engagement, advocacy, or related fields.
- Experience: At least one year of academic or professional experience in relevant fields; professional experience is considered a strong asset.
- Communication: Ability to manage regular communication with the team across multiple time zones; excellent command of English (writing, speaking, listening) and knowledge of the local language of the city represented.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Proven organizational and leadership skills; ability to coordinate projects, problem-solve, and work effectively in teams.
- Commitment: Availability to dedicate 4–6 hours per week for a 10-month fellowship and access to a stable internet connection.
Fellowship Structure & Responsibilities
The Local Pathways Fellowship involves structured monthly deliverables and activities, including:
