Rochester, N.Y. — Nine local high school students were given scholarships Tuesday as the Electrical Association of Western New York celebrated Electrical Week.
The association's luncheon was designed to showcase business and educational opportunities in the industry.
"Where would we be without electricity? In the dark," said Ray Capone, president of the Electrical Association of Western New York. "It takes a lot of ingenuity and it takes a lot of talented people to install the stuff and invent the stuff."
"We would love for people to consider the trades, but more importantly there's not just the trades, we represent the entire electrical system," Capone continued. "There's manufacturers, distributors, contractors, etc. So there's so many avenues to consider our industry for, and we'd love to get that word out there."
Electrical Week also coincides with Thomas Edison's birthday.
The Electrical Association of Western New York has been around since 1924. Its primary purpose is to educate the community on the safe and efficient use of electricity and technology.
