WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The 100 Black Men of Coastal North Carolina held a scholarship brunch on Saturday morning.
The organization helps to mentor youth in the Wilmington community.
The organization has a Success Academy where high school students participate in a ten-month program designed to help them prepare for college.
They held a silent auction and invited leaders and neighbors to showcase how they help high schoolers.
The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards their scholarship funds.
The president of the organization says that sending them off to continue their education is only the beginning of ensuring their success.
“We provide mentoring over a lifetime, not only while they’re here. Even as they go to college, graduate from college, and start their own business or working in business or whatever it is they do, we want to mentor them over a lifetime,” says Angelo Williams.
Mayor Bill Saffo, Commissioner Rob Zapple, Former Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, and more attended the event.
Williams says it’s support from a caring community that shows the youth they have a village.
“It takes all of us, not just one of us but all of us. We need our teachers, administrators, our business people, community leaders, everyone one of us working together to lift up our community so it can become the best it can be,” says Williams.
The young men have the opportunity to participate in the organization on a collegiate level.
You can help to pour into the local chapter by volunteering or donating money.
