The 100 Black Men of Savannah, Inc. proudly hosted its 29th Annual Grand Scholarship Gala at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott. The event, a cornerstone in the organization’s efforts to empower youth and foster academic success, was an evening of celebration, inspiration, and community recognition.
This year’s gala was expertly co-emceed by Kim Gusby and Zerik Samples, who guided the evening’s proceedings with poise and enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of mentorship, education, and community.
During the event, several deserving students were awarded scholarships to support their academic journeys:
Jada Banks will be attending Brenau University. Manar Graham will be attending
Georgia Southern University. Ted Jacobs, Jr. will be attending Valdosta State University. Ruth Rogers received the Collegiate 100’s Excellence Scholarship.
In addition to the scholarship presentations, the 100 Black Men of Savannah honored individuals who have made significant contributions to their respective fields and to the community at large with the Community Excellence Awards. The honorees included:
• Excellence in Business Award: Mrs. Shirley James, Publisher of the Savannah Tribune, for her leadership and contributions to both business and voter engagement.
• Excellence in Community Service Award: Judge Christopher Middleton, for his unwavering commitment to justice and community advocacy.
• Excellence in Public Service Award: U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, for his continued service and dedication to the betterment of the public good.
Although Senator Warnock was unable to attend in person, he joined the celebration via video message, sharing words of encouragement and gratitude for the work of the 100 Black Men of Savannah.
The evening also featured moving speeches from the students themselves, who shared their stories of resilience, hope, and the impact of mentorship. Their powerful messages resonated deeply with attendees, reminding everyone of the transformative power of education and the importance of community support.
The 100 Black Men of Savannah extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined in this momentous occasion. Your support is crucial in helping to build a brighter future for the incredible young people we serve. We look forward to continuing our work to inspire and mentor the next generation of leaders.
