CLEARWATER, Fla. — For the second consecutive year, Clearwater for Youth (CFY) is helping local students through a scholarship program that awards graduating seniors a free iPad and magic keyboard.
In coordination with BIZCO Technology, 11 students unwrapped their gifts at the Long Center in Clearwater.
Since its inception in 2013, CFY’s Education program has provided more than $2.1 million in scholarships and technology support.
“It means a lot to me,” Katrina Barriner of Lakewood High School said. “My iPad broke and I had to return my school computer so after high school I didn’t have a device to do my school work on.”
CFY supports youth athletics programs and organizations in Pinellas County all year long with an emphasis on skill-building activities, reaching more than 15,000 children annually.
“I grew up my entire life playing CFY sports through Little League and the basketball teams. To have these opportunities through these programs, to win an iPad and further my education is a great feeling,” Joshua Bradley of Calvary Christian High School said.
CFY and BIZCO Technology hope these sort of efforts will have a ripple effect where these students stay in the community and help the next generation.
“I definitely want to give back to my teammates at Lakewood High School,” Synia Warren said. “Having (CFY) to look up to inspires me to give back to my community.”
CFY continues to expand its scholarship efforts every year. The most recent application process had roughly 300 applicants with ceremonies at BayCare Ballpark and TD Ballpark.
