SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Zolman Tire, Inc. has been giving back to the community for years.
This year, the company planned on awarding eight scholarships to high school graduates, but the applications were so good that they needed to honor more students.
In the video above, you can see some of the 11 scholarship winners receive their $1,000 check from Zolman for student leadership. Nate Zolman, the president of Zolman Tire, says it honors his mom and dad, who came from nothing and worked hard to give him opportunities.
“Kind of pay it forward to the next generation,” he said. “The 296 applications we had were so amazing, so when my generation or older says ‘the kids nowadays,’ if they read these applications, they would have a different perspective on how special the next generation can be.”
“I would like to move into a nonprofit and help the homeless,” said Ethan Henriquez, a student at Northwood High School and scholarship recipient.
“My biggest goal is to be a United Nations ambassador,” said Annalise Ransom, another scholarship recipient. “I hope to help people through policy changes and be on the front lines with them.”
Over five years, the Zolman scholarship has awarded 50 students for a total of $50,000 for higher education, trade school, vocational school, or traditional college.
