WASHINGTON — Sunday marked the 12th annual Dayla Community Brunch hosted by 100 Black Men organization.
Every year the 100 Black Men organization offers scholarships to students who live in Prince George’s County.  This year the organization offered ten scholarships of $2,000 to students pursuing higher education.
The organization was founded in 1963 in New York City to empower African American communities and invest in youth development. The Prince George’s County chapter was founded in December 2012. The first daytime gala or “dayla” took place at District Heights Community Center.
Since then the chapter has grown to 90 members and they have given out $100,000 in scholarships to local students. On Saturday, they held their 12th annual “dayla” at the MGM at the National Harbor.
For any Prince George’s County high school student or college undergrad living in the county interested in applying for next year’s scholarships, here’s how. Students that are either graduating high school or matriculating undergrad students who pursuing a degree in STEM are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Those who are majoring in Computer Science related fields can also apply. You must have a 3.0 GPA and write a personal essay.
