The Community Foundation of Monroe County recently awarded more than $130,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors during its annual breakfast celebration, according to an announcement.
The event took place at Saint Therese IHM Senior Living, where families and students gathered to celebrate education and community support. Scholarships were given to students from various parts of Monroe County, recognizing their hard work and aspirations.
“As a retired educator, mornings like this mean everything to me,” said Valerie Orr, executive director of the Community Foundation of Monroe County. “This is one of those events that reminds you what’s possible when people believe in each other. Each scholarship awarded today is more than a check—it’s a bridge between a student’s potential and a community that’s invested in their success.”
The scholarships were awarded in memory of loved ones, in honor of community leaders, and as investments in the next generation. The event was supported by several sponsors, including DTE Energy, Monroe Community Credit Union, Monroe County Community College, Qimby’s Restaurant & Bar, Williams Insurance of Southeast Michigan, and CFMC board secretary Debbie Dushane.
The scholarships will assist students in pursuing further education, whether at trade schools or four-year universities.
