St. Augustine’s Elks Lodge# 829 awarded 14 scholarships of $1,000 to 2025 graduating seniors.
Recipients were chosen based on academic achievement, school activities, community service and financial need.
St. Augustine High School recipients include Grace Flaherty for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University; Blair Clark, Hanna Murphy and Benjamin Brown, all heading to the University of Florida; and Olivia Smith for musical theatre.
St. Joseph Academy recipient Paige Bremmer is heading to the University of Florida.
Beachside High recipients include Haley Fennell for Penn State and Lucas Lamen for law and politics.
Ponte Vedra High School recipient Nicholas Storm is heading to Florida International University.
Bartram Trail High School students include Caitlin Howell for the University of Central Florida; Katelyn Merrell for Florida State University; and Benjamin Dolce and Jeramie Miller, both heading to the University of Florida.
Founded more than 40 years ago, the St. Augustine Elks Lodge Scholarship Program is funded by the Lodge’s Scholarship Trust Fund. Monies are derived from various fundraisers along with proceeds from event parking for the St. Augustine Amphitheater and Lodge events such as Bingo and Pirate Crewe 829.
Touting more than 1,500 members, Elks Lodge #829 is part of the National Organization of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.
Member David Lee told the St. Augustine Record via email that in addition to the club’s social events, members focus on philanthropy for youth and veteran services, serving as one of the largest youth scholarship funding programs in the country.
ā€œWe support many local charities such as St. Francis House, the ARC, Betty Griffin House and many others,ā€ he said. “We also provide funding to the Elks’ state and national level programs such as our Mobile Children’s Therapy Services and the Florida Elks Youth Camp.ā€
