Liam Tallow, left, and Issac Phillips of Ponchatoula High School were named finalists for the National Merit Scholarship earlier this year.
Ponchatoula High School announced that two of its students are National Merit Scholarship finalists for 2024.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college scholarships.
U.S. high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which serves as an initial screen of over 1.3 million entrants each year.
Of those 1.3 million students, Isaac Phillips and Liam Tallo are among the 50,000 finalists who proceeded to the next level.
The Ponchatoula High School faculty and staff congratulated Isaac and Liam and wished them the best of luck with their post-secondary education.
