POSEN — The Presque Isle Turkey Trackers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting their 26th Annual Hunting Heritage and Scholarship Banquet today at the Posen Community Center. This banquet is a fundraising event to help the chapter with its outreach to the community, which includes low-cost seed for food plots, helping with hunter safety programs, providing gift cards to the needy during the holidays, providing scholarships to area high school seniors, and many other programs.
This year, there are six scholarship applicants: Alexis Bedard, Andrew Budnick, John Ennest, Tristin Hepburn, Isaac Idalski, and Aubrey Kowalski. The applicants are judged on scholastic achievements, leadership abilities in the school and community, plus each applicant is asked to provide three letters of recommendation and write an essay on why hunting is important to them and their commitment to conservation.
The Presque Isle Turkey Trackers Board reviews and judges each application and chooses a winner or winners. Last year’s winner was Katelyn Bielas of Rogers City. Her application was submitted to the Michigan Chapter of the NWTF where she was awarded a $2,500 scholarship. There are 52 chapters in the state of Michigan.
The NWTF — a national nonprofit organization — is the leader in upland wildlife habitat conservation in North America. Founded in 1973, the NWTF is headquartered in Edgefield, S.C., and has local chapters in every state. The NWTF is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage. To join or renew your membership, visit NWTF.org.
