A local fraternity – Alpha Upsilon Lambda – carried on a 29 year tradition as they hosted the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship Breakfast. Since 1997, this inspiring event has honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while supporting the educational aspirations of local students through scholarships.
Legacy Awards were handed out in the categories of business, governmental services, religion, and humanity. In the decades since the event started, the funds raised have provided financial assistance to more than 180 students in the River Region. Dr. King was a member of the Alpha Upsilon Lambda chapter when he lived in Montgomery.
