CHALMETTE HIGH: CHS honor students Norman Morales, Kimberly Quintanilla and Kristion Thomas have been named winners of the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship, which offers full four-year scholarships to some of the nation’s most prestigious universities. Morales will attend Yale in pre-law. Quintanilla was accepted into Dartmouth in pre-med. Thomas will also be pre-med at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. Each scholarship, valued at over $300,000, covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, housing, food, books, supplies and travel expenses.
ST. BERNARD PARISH SCHOOLS: Caroline Miller, Gabrielle Smith and Monica Hentze have been named districtwide Teachers of the Year. They will represent the district in the regional competition for the 2024-2025 Louisiana Teacher of the Year. Miller, the elementary honoree, teaches third grade at Joseph Davies Elementary School. Smith, the middle school winner, teaches sixth grade social studies at N.P. Trist Middle. Hentze, high school award recipient, teaches biology at Chalmette High.
NOMMA: New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy senior Adrian Topete has received the Legion of Valor Award with Bronze Cross. Topete, a cadet lieutenant colonel who serves as the MCJROTC cadet battalion commander, is the third cadet in the school’s 13-year MCJROTC program and the sole honoree from Region 5 (JROTC units from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas) to receive the award. The Legion of Valor-Bronze Cross is awarded to JROTC cadets who demonstrate outstanding performance, dependability, exceptional character, and leadership ability.
LAKE FOREST CHARTER SCHOOL: Lake Forest students Riley Bruton and Andy Trinh have been selected to participate in the 2025 Louisiana All-State Middle School String Orchestra, organized by the Louisiana Music Educators Association. Bruton, a violinist, is in eighth grade. Trinh, a seventh grader, plays viola. The 2025 Louisiana All-State Middle School String Orchestra will take place Jan. 16-18 in New Orleans.
MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY: Cubotics, Mount Carmel’s robotics team, competed in the recent First Tech Challenge Qualifier at Hammond High Magnet School, winning five of six qualifying matches and securing fourth place to advance to the finalist rounds. The team also earned second place for the Inspire Award, FTC’s most prestigious honor, and qualified for the FTC State Championship in February. Cubotics was one of 40 FTC teams from 13 countries selected to represent the initiative in STEM worldwide.
MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY: Mount Carmel senior Catalina Reichard was named a Chevron Scholar Athlete on Dec. 3. The award, in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, recognizes student-athletes for their excellence in academics and sports. It includes a $1,000 scholarship for college. Reichard, who will also be recognized at the New Orleans Bowl, runs track and was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Cross Country Player of the Year.
NOCCA: New Orleans Center for Creative Arts registration is open through Jan. 11 for the Feb. 10-April 10 classes in the Experience NOCCA Workshop series. Aspiring artists in grades 7-9 can get a taste of conservatory arts education in each of the 11 art disciplines offered. Classes run 4-5:30 p.m. Cost is $75. app.getacceptd.com/noccaworkshop.
NOMMA: The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy will host open houses for prospective students and families in grades 8-11. Families must attend an open house for eligibility to apply. The dates are Jan. 14 and Jan. 23. Presentations begin at 6 p.m. Register at nomma.net/admissions.

NOCCA: Applications are open through Jan. 17, for the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Students interested in pursuing training with the regional, professional arts training center can receive intensive instruction in a variety of fields. Admission is by audition only.
