Three Ledford baseball players recently signed college scholarships to continue their careers.
Libardo Santos was the headliner of the group and will head to UNC Charlotte next fall. Santos, who mainly plays third base along with some right field and pitching when needed, batted .350 last season for the Panthers with a pair of home runs and 15 RBIs. He also had a 5-1 pitching record with 3.00 earned run average. The 49ers compete in the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference.
Martinez, who has played shortstop and second base, inked with Georgia State of the Division I Sun Belt Conference. The three-year varsity starter has a career .326 batting average at Ledford. Martinez was an All-Mid Piedmont Conference pick last spring and was selected to the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Team.
Pichardo, a left fielder, has committed to St. Petersburg Community College, a junior college program in St. Petersburg, Florida. Pichardo is also a three-year varsity starter for the Panthers. He has a career batting average of .344 and has twice been named All MPC. Pichardo was a member of the NCBCA All Region Team last season.
Martinez and Pichardo were both key performers on Ledford’s conference championship teams in 2022 and 2023.
“I am extremely proud of how these three have represented Ledford baseball on the field as well as in the community,” Ledford coach Kevin Goss said. “They have put in a lot of work to reach this goal and continue their careers at the next level. We will look forward to watching them continue to grow as players and young men once they graduate in the spring. They are part of an outstanding senior class, and we are excited for them to continue adding to their list of accomplishments this spring.”
