The Sanford Lions Club announced recently that Gina DeCerbo and Sally Cabrera are recipients of the North Carolina Association of Agriculture Fairs Scholarship, and Kamryn Cummings is the recipient of the Dick Janas Scholarship.
Each scholarship is $2,400. Funds were sent to each recipient’s school for the fall semester.
The goal of the Association is to promote interest in agricultural fairs in North Carolina.
DeCerbo, the daughter of Matthew and Lorinda DeCerbo, graduated from Southern Lee High School and will be attending Duke University. She wants to become a marine biologist.
Cabrera is the daughter of Jenny and Saul Cabrera. A graduate of Lee Early College, Sally will be attending Elon University. She will be seeking a degree in electrical engineering.
Cummings, the daughter of Kimberly and Brad Cummings, graduated from Western Harnett High School. She will be attending Appalachian State University and wants to become an FBI investigator.
Only youth who volunteer are able to apply for the scholarships, a release states.
“These scholarships are a direct result of the students’ volunteer time with the Lee Regional Fair or their work with Fun Rides and Events and American Sky Lifts,” said Preston Sellers, Lee Regional Fair manager.
The 2025 Lee Regional Fair, ”Country Sights & Carnival Lights,” will be held Sept. 10-14.
