Three Maui students have received a Construction Industry of Maui’s Bob Poulson Scholarship, providing each with $25,000 to pursue their education and career in the construction industry.
Seniors Macie Madaus, Karissa Chapman and Kai Shively were selected.
Karissa Chapman
Chapman of Kamehameha Schools Maui earned a 4.11 grade-point average, while taking Advanced Placement calculus.
She did 144 hours of volunteering as a camp counselor at Camp Imua, supporting children with cognitive and physical disabilities while working part-time at Coldstone Creamery.
Chapman plans to study civil engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, with the goal of returning to Maui to improve infrastructure and help create sustainable housing solutions for the local community.
Macie Madaus
Madaus, who attended King Kekaulike High School, received a 4.1 gpa. She not only danced in the Nutcracker Suite performed at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, but also built set pieces for the theatrical production. Madaus plans to attend Colorado Mesa University.
Shively, who earned a 4.0 gpa at Maui Preparatory Academy, has enrolled in college level business and psychology courses and worked as an intern in architectural design and construction management.
He’s been accepted to Willamette University, where he plans to play golf.
The scholarship honors the enduring legacy of Bob Poulson, co-founder of Arita Poulson General Contracting, for his unwavering commitment to service, his inspiring leadership, and his passion for mentoring the next generation.
Through this tribute, his Poulson’s spirit of giving back and his enthusiasm for introducing young people to opportunities in the construction field will continue to make a lasting impact. To date, more than $350,000 in scholarship funds have been awarded to 15 Maui high school students.
