MARYVILLE, Mo. — Five Nodaway County students became the latest recipients of Cody Lee Stiens Memorial Scholarships last week.
The 2025 recipients, where they plan to attend school and their intended career path are below:

This is the third year of the scholarship program, begun in the memory of Cody Lee Stiens, the son of Lori and Steve Sears and Kevin and Sonja Stiens. The Searses established the scholarship with a focus on technical school students because Cody was a big believer in and had a strong passion for work in the trades.
Including this year’s awards, the program has provided nearly $30,000 in scholarships so far, the Searses said. Over that time, applications for scholarships have steadily increased, too, from eight in the first year to 21 this year. The scholarship awards, which can be renewed annually, have also increased from $1,500 per student to $2,000 per student.
The Searses said they will host a fundraiser again this September, which was helpful in raising more money for the scholarship fund last year.
