Six Prince William County high school seniors have been selected as 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists.
More than 1.3 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
Of those, about 16,000 students were recognized as semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors. They were among the highest-scoring students in each state.
Members of Prince William County’s class of 2026 who earned scores qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship finalist distinction include:
Rebecca Clark, of C.D. Hylton High School
Luke Davis, of Battlefield High School
Benjamin Fu, Gainesville High Schoo
Alexander Gushi, of Battlefield High School
Julienne Lim, of Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School
Luke Pomfret, of Patriot High School
Five students who attended middle school in Prince William County but now attend the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology also were selected as semifinalists: Nikolas Fitzpatrick, Jayden Yang, Kaleb Hickling, Nathaniel Kerr and Matthew Ryan, according to a news release from Prince William County Public Schools.
Of the nationwide cohort, around 7,000 will win a National Merit Scholarship next year.
To apply to qualify as a finalist and win a scholarship, semifinalists must submit an academic transcript, an endorsement from the principal, an essay and a SAT or ACT score, amongst other materials. Winners will be announced next spring.
