Eight seniors from Columbia high schools have been named semifinalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Two are from Hickman High School and five are from Rock Bridge High School. Here are their names:
In all, there are more than 16,000 semifinalists and nearly 7,000 will continue to compete for nearly $26 million in scholarships next spring.
More than 1.3 million juniors in 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 program by taking a qualifying test. The number of semifinalists in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the number of high school graduates nationally.
Semifinalists who want to be considered for a Merit Scholarship award must complete a detailed scholarship application, outlining the academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership experience, employment, and honors and awards.
